The Canadian butter tart is perhaps the most popular sweet treat amongst our northern neighbors. It's a fairly straightforward dessert, consisting of butter, sugar, syrup, and egg, with a filling of your choice. Cottage Life says that a butter tart recipe in a Canadian cookbook dates back to the early 1900s.
If you've ever had the pleasure of coming across this confection, you know that major thanks are due to Canada. The flaky crust is paired perfectly with just about any filling you can imagine - though most popular are nuts and fruits. If you've never tried such a thing, why not give it a shot?

First, combine the crust ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
Dive the dough and press it into the cups of a muffin/cupcake tin.
Now, grab your pecans and heat them over the stove, stirring occasionally.
While the pecans cook, gather ingredients for the filling and mix them up.
Add your lightly toasted pecans to the cupcake tin.
Pour the mixture into the cups.
Bake in the oven.
Let the cups cool, and enjoy!
