Chicken stroganoff recipe uses packet of seasoning for classic flavor

There are a handful of traditional dinners that you can find on American dinner tables that have become so ingrained in our culture that you could easily forget their origin. Stroganoff is one of those dishes. Though it's a common dish served in the form of frozen food or Hamburger Helper-style box dinners, few remember it's actually of Russian origin.
However, while the dish traditionally uses pieces of beef in a cream-based sauce, this recipe from Allrecipes.com substitutes chicken for beef. While chicken often gets a bad rap for being dry and flavorless, this chicken stroganoff easily rivals the beef version by being tender, juicy and full of flavor.

Mimicking its beef counterpart, the chicken breast in this recipe is cut and cubed into small pieces.
Putting the chicken into your slow cooker, you'll add a two tablespoons of butter. You could substitute margarine instead if you don't prefer butter.
Allrecipes suggests sprinkling a packet of Italian seasoning in the slow cooker. You could use your own mixture instead of store bought seasoning. Oregano, thyme, garlic, etc. can be used instead.
Mix up all the ingredients and let your chicken cook on low for six hours or so.
Once it's cooked for a while, the recipe calls for a packet of cream cheese and a small can of cream of chicken soup. Cutting the amount of both the cream cheese and soup in half would likely do the trick and keep the creaminess and flavor, if you feel like cutting down. Finish it off by letting the chicken cook for another half hour.
Once it's done, pour it over some freshly cooked egg noodles, wheat pasta or even brown rice for a hearty dinner.
