Opening the door after a long day at work to be enveloped by the timeless aroma of chicken and dumplings, is like manna from Heaven.  The culinary equivalent of being wrapped in a fluffy robe and having your feet slid into soft slippers, this dish lulls you into a state of satisfied contentment even before the first forkful.   Feel free to eat in said robe and slippers for the ultimate in restorative nourishment.
Forgotten to defrost the chicken breasts?  No problem.  You can cook the chicken from frozen in this recipe, so simply add the ingredients in the morning, and let the slow cooker work its magic.

Ingredients:
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons butter
2 (10.75-ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 onion, finely diced
2 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into small pieces
Instructions:
1.  Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker, and put the butter on top, before sprinkling on the chopped onions.
2. Spoon the soup around the chicken before adding enough water to cover and cook on high for 5 - 6 hours.
4.  Add the biscuit dough around 30 minutes before serving and cook until no longer raw in the centre.  Larger pieces of dough will need longer cooking, so add 1 - 2 hours before the end of the cooking time.
For an even richer flavor: Use chicken broth to cover instead of water, and add some frozen or canned vegetables to the sauce an hour before the end of the cooking time.  Tweak to your own taste by using mushroom soup instead of chicken, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder and serve with 2 tbs of finely chopped fresh parsley.  Switch the breast for chicken thighs if that's what you have, and don't be afraid to experiment with a dash of coarse grain mustard or a pinch of warming cumin when you add the onions.

Enjoying in a fluffy robe and slippers is entirely optional.
