How to make cherry chocolate dessert

Print this recipe
Cherries and chocolate have a real affinity, as anyone who's eaten a simple chocolate-covered cherry can attest to.  This recipe for cherry chocolate dessert is so simple, but what a result.  The cherry filling is sweet and toothsome, the chocolate rich and well…really, really chocolatey.  In fact, you might want to use more of the cherry filling if you prefer a stronger fruit presence, but if chocolate is your favorite, then don't change a thing.
Not all fruit works so well with chocolate, but experimenting might throw up some great combinations.  A can of raspberries might add a nice touch of sharper sweetness, or fragrant, sweetened pears.

Ingredients:
21 oz/660g canned cherry pie filling
1 x 18 oz/500g packet chocolate cake mix
1⁄2 cup/115g  butter at room temperature
Instructions:
1.  Pour the cherry pie filling into your slow cooker and combine the butter and cake mix in a bowl before spooning on top of the pie filling, before cooking on low for three hours.
And that's it!  So quick, so easy, and just what slow cookers are all about.   This delicious dessert is at it's very best served still slightly hot, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting over it.  That's not to say it isn't pretty fine cold as well, so don't worry if you can't finish it all in one sitting!
