Salisbury steak is ground or minced beef, reformed to look like a steak or patties; and served with a savory, meaty brown gravy. You can enjoy it all year round, but it's particularly good in the cooler weather and makes a great family meal. Kids tend to love the 'steaks' served over buttery mashed potatoes with that gravy!
We're taking a look at two variations of the classic recipe, with the first from All Recipes. This dish packs in a lot of flavor, but smartly uses some real time saving fixes such as onion soup mix and Italian seasoning in the beef patty mixture and a tin of soup to make the base of the gravy.

You could even make the patties ahead and freeze them (they'll cook just fine from frozen), so throwing this dish together on a busy morning would take two minutes, tops!
The second of our Salisbury steak recipes is a low-fat version from Skinny Taste. Slow cookers are great for cooking with less fat, as the long cooking process imbues even low-fat meat with moisture, and the flavors really develop beautifully.
Here, ground turkey replaces some of the beef which is also low-fat. The Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, mushrooms and mustard powder ensure that low-fat does not mean low-flavor, and this is a great, healthy version of the classic dish.
You can't go wrong with either of these recipes, and they'll taste great with noodles, rice or the aforementioned mash. Skinnytaste.com also give their recipe for skinny garlic mash, so give that a whirl if you want to stick to the low-fat theme!
