We admit, dinner cooked in a dishwasher may not sound so appetizing. However, the real question is, does it work? In this video posted by POPSUGAR Food, you can see firsthand just how this unconventional method works.
The video starts by explaining why the dishwasher method isn't such an insane idea. First of all, it combines water and heat which is a lot like the Sous-vide method. A dishwasher actually reaches temperatures as high as 140 degrees which are often the perfect amount of heat for cooking several delicious recipes.

To kick off cooking in a dishwasher, you must first make sure that you place food in the appropriate container. After all, nobody wants all of that soapy dirty water mixed in! The video suggests using a mason jar because it seals tight and protects the food. Next, choose foods that cook quickly and don't necessarily have to be cooked all the way food. The sides used in this particular meal include green beans and couscous. Don't forget about dessert! Even soft fruits can be cooked as a side or top over ice cream. It's important to include enough water in the jar so that the food can cook properly.
Make sure to allow the food to cook through the entire washing cycle. Drain excess water from each container. The result? An amazing meal with very little effort!
Keep in mind, this is isn't the only idea for cooking in a dishwasher. As Kitchn reminds us, one of the original dishwasher recipes was in fact, salmon. Looking for more inspiration?
