While the debate rages about whether hydrogen peroxide should be used as an antiseptic for wound care, households are finding many other ways to use this oxidized liquid.
As an ingredient in produce, a wash is just one of the ways that Melissa Maker of Clean My Space uses hydrogen peroxide. "I don't know about you, but I'm really not into ingesting pesticides, thank you very much," said Maker. To remove chemicals and bacteria from fresh produce, she recommends adding one cup of hydrogen peroxide to a quart (liter) of water in a large bowl. Add the produce and leave it in the solution for a few minutes before rinsing it thoroughly and patting it dry.

Hydrogen peroxide is fantastic for laundry, particularly as a whitening agent. Add some to a load of whites as a bleach alternative, advises OhSimply. Or create a solution of one part dishwashing liquid to two parts hydrogen peroxide and soak armpit stains with it; let it sit for about an hour before rinsing with cold water and laundering normally.
Bleaching action is utilized when hydrogen peroxide is used to lighten the color of hair or teeth -- but caution should be taken when attempting this, as it is possible to damage hair or teeth with this method.
Diluting the hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of water creates a great mouthwash, reports care2. This solution is strong enough to be effective against bacteria, but greatly reduces the chances of harming the teeth. (Note: even diluted hydrogen peroxide should not be swallowed.)
