Inspired by chopping off zombie fingers, The Vegan Zombie decided to shape vegan cheese into sticks and fry them with seasoned breadcrumbs. Owning a double boiler and a deep fryer makes this recipe easier to cook, but are not necessary.
Watch the video for complete guided instructions for making these delicious dippers -- The Vegan Zombie would probably call them the ultimate "finger" food!

Vegan cheese sticks
Preparation Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 80 minutes
Yield: 10-12 sticks
Ingredients5 tablespoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 cups vegan cheese shreds (recommended: Daiya mozzarella)
1-1/2 cups vegan breadcrumbs
2 cups soy milk
1-1/2 cups flour
2-3 cups canola oil
1/4 tomato sauce
Directions
1. Mix garlic powder, sea salt and pepper in a large bowl.
2. Put cheese shreds into double boiler (or glass bowl over saucepan of boiling water). Stir until cheese is melted, adding a tablespoon or two of soy milk if needed.
3. Add 2 teaspoons of the garlic powder mixture to the cheese and stir.
4. Pour cheese mixture into loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Spread as evenly as possible, then put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
5. After chilling, carefully remove formed cheese from loaf pan and put onto cutting board. Cut cheese into 10-12 strips across the width (not length) of the loaf-shaped cheese.
6. Add breadcrumbs to garlic powder mixture and mix thoroughly.
7. Put soy milk in a separate bowl, and the flour in yet another bowl.
8. Dunk each cheese stick into the soy milk, dredge in the flour, dunk in soy milk again, then roll in the breadcrumb mixture and set aside. Repeat for each cheese stick.
9. Pour canola oil into a saucepan until it's 2-3 inches (5-7.5 centimeters) deep, and turn heat to medium. (A deep fryer can also be used.)
10. Place sticks in oil to fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Remove with tongs and set on paper towels to soak up oil. Serve hot with tomato sauce for dipping.
Try these cheese sticks with other dipping sauces; smoky avocado or sweet and spicy mango mustard would pair well with the mozzarella flavor of the Daiya.
