Spicy smoked sausage Alfredo bake
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Serves: 6-8
Ingredients
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons garlic, minced
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded and divided
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
3/4 pound spicy smoked sausage
3 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
1 pound cooked pasta
Directions
1. Cook the pasta al dente according to the package instructions.
2. In a big skillet (or oven-safe pan), melt the butter. Add the garlic and cook for about 2 minutes on medium heat until fragrant (be careful not to burn the garlic!). Add the flour and stir it with the help of a whisk.
3. Stir in the chicken broth and whisk the sauce until you get a smooth texture. Season with salt, pepper, cayenne and red pepper flakes.
4. Add 1 cup of the mozzarella and the Parmesan cheese to the sauce and stir until they're melted and well combined.
5. Slice the sausage diagonally and add it to the sauce, along with the chopped parsley and pasta. Mix everything together and top with the remaining shredded mozzarella.
6. Broil for 2-3 minutes and enjoy!
Pro tip: For more of a crispy and deep flavor, brown the sausage slices before adding it to the sauce. If you do brown the sausage, don't let that heavenly fat go to waste. Use the sausage drippings to make the Alfredo sauce.
Pro tip: Don't like smoked spicy sausage? Switch for your favorite type of sausage or add your own twist, like crispy bacon. Go healthier with broccoli florets or mushrooms.
