3 right ways to cut an avocado

One of the original bearers of the "superfood" label, avocados are versatile and tasty. In the United States, avocados are commonly used to make guacamole-style dip -- nearly 105 million pounds of avocados were consumed for dip on Super Bowl Sunday 2017, reports ABC News.
Guacamole requires mashing the avocado flesh into a smooth, spreadable dip -- but what if you want slices? Sliced avocado is perfect for adding to sandwiches or salads, but slicing the fruit is tricky because of its leathery skin, soft flesh and large seed. Here are three easy ways to get beautifully sliced avocados.

1. Skin
Use a butter knife to pierce the skin near the top of the fruit. Slide the knife downward, around the bottom then back to the top, making sure the cut is deep enough to reach the seed.
Separate the avocado halves and set aside the half with the seed. Hold the remaining half in your off hand and gently slice the flesh with the butter knife. Use a spoon to carefully scoop out the slices.

2. Cutting board
With a chef's knife and cutting board, slice the avocado longways similar as above. Separate the halves. Take the half without the seed and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Set it onto the cutting board and slice the flesh to the desired width.

3. Egg Slicer
Cut and halve the avocado as described above. Scoop the flesh from the empty half and place it into an open egg slicer. Close the wire top slowly for easy, clean slices.
