Most people think of fleas as a pest that bothers dogs and cats. And while it's true, a flea's bite will cause painful, itchy irritation in dogs and cats, people are not immune to flea bites. Fleas, like bedbugs, can reproduce pretty quickly, making your house quite uncomfortable.
Getting rid of fleas as quickly as possible will ensure they don't spread from your pet or yard to people. If you're itching to give fleas the boot or keep them away without relying on chemical solutions, check out these four natural remedies.

1. Make your own non-toxic flea killer
Try making your own flea killer with 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of essential orange oil. Combine the oil and baking soda into a jar. Shake well to combine the mixture, sprinkle it on your pet, and rub the powder mixture into their skin.
2. Amp up shampoo power
Keep the pesky biters away from your furry friend by using 1/2 cup of dog shampoo mixed with 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 2 cups of water. Spray your pet with this mixture once a week, Fleabites says.
3. Keep fleas away from your yard with landscaping
The easiest way to get rid of fleas is to not get them in the first place. Deter fleas and other annoying bugs by choosing your landscaping wisely. Dogs Naturally Magazine suggests planting lemon balm, sage, catnip, sage, mint, basil, and lemongrass throughout your garden and keeping pots of the same herbs near outside living areas.
4. Make your own flea color
Keep your pup safe while he plays in the backyard by making your own flea collar from a bandana. Mix three to five drops of lavender oil with 1 to 3 tablespoons of water. Use an eye dropper to apply a few drops of the solution to the bandana, and tie it loosely around your pet's neck.
