Keep your closet in check with these awesome organizational hacks

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone had a huge walk-in closet with built-in shelves, racks, and drawers to hold every shoe and article of clothing? Unfortunately, many people have to make due with a normal, or even ridiculously small, closet. Some people deal with this by downsizing their wardrobe, while others simply take over the rest of the house in order to keep all of their clothes. Surely there's a better way.
In fact, there are several better ways. Having a small closet doesn't mean you're forced to have a small wardrobe. All you have to do is get a little creative when it comes to organizing your space.

1. Closet door
An easy way to gain more storage is to use the closet door. Attach a few bars to the door and use hooks to hang various items from the bars. This hack works especially well for shoes, scarves, hats and jewelry.
2. Shelf dividers
Make sure you get the most out of your available shelf space by keeping everything in its place. If you stack your sweaters or jeans, for example, you'll waste space if the piles are always falling over onto each other. Instead, buy a few shelf dividers to help keep each pile where it's supposed to stay.
3. Soda can tabs
If you have an overabundance of shirts to hang up, but not enough space on your hanging rod, you're going to need to drink some soda — a lot of soda. While you're drinking all this soda, save all of the tabs off of the cans. Then loop the tabs onto your hangers, thus creating an extra hole for another hanger. You can do this as many times as you need to (or until your top hanger can't take anymore weight), allowing you to hang up multiple shirts vertically instead of horizontally along the rack.
4. Wire baskets
Purses, scarves, hats, shoes and other accessories tend to take up a lot of space. Instead of wasting what little room you have on your hooks or hanging rods, attach a few wire baskets to any bare walls inside your closet. These baskets can act as storage for items that don't really fit anywhere else.
5. No-slip hangers
Once you've organized your closet, you want to make sure it stays that way. You don't want to open your door the next day to find that half of your shirts are on the floor. To prevent this from happening, wrap two pipe cleaners around each end of all of your hangers. Your clothes will catch onto these and stay in place instead of slipping off the hangers.
6. Pegboard (h/t Sew Many Ways)
If you have some blank wall space, consider hanging up a pegboard. This will provide a perfect storage unit for belts, necklaces, purses and other lightweight accessories.

You shouldn't have to give up any of your clothes, shoes, or accessories just because you have limited closet space. Instead, keep everything organized, and you'll be amazed at how much room you have for everything.
