1. Slip on rubber gloves
Most kitchens have a pair of rubber gloves near the sink. Simply slip them on to get better grip on a tight jar lid. This is a perfect tip for when your hands are just a bit too slick or for jar lids that are slightly greasy.

2. Pop the top (h/t Mad in Crafts)
The vacuum seal on a glass jar is often what makes it so hard to remove the lid. Once you pop the seal, the jar should easily open. Grab an old fashioned bottle opener. Insert the pointed end under the lip of the lid. Gentle leverage is all you need to pop the suction on the lid.
3. Grab a spoon
Don't worry about not having a bottle opener - you can still pop the seal on a jar lid. Simply grab a metal spoon. Nestle the edge of the spoon between the jar and the lid. Use backward pressure to apply leverage and pop the seal. So easy!
4. Heat up the lid
Metal lids expand when exposed to heat, helping you to open even the toughest jar seal. Hold the jar sideways with the lid under running hot water for a few minutes. The lid will expand faster than the jar does, making the struggle to open jar lids disappear.
5. Rubber band it
Sometimes all you need is better grip to really grasp and turn a jar lid. A simple rubber band is the perfect solution. It takes up very minimal space in your kitchen and is extremely inexpensive. Place the rubber band around the lid of the jar and twist the lid off.
6. Tap the lid
Gently tapping around the edge of a metal lid on a glass jar can help to break the suction on the lid. You can use the back of a heavy knife or even tap it gently on your kitchen counter. Repeated light tapping works better than banging it. Gentle treatment is key when dealing with glass jars.
