Eggnog, a creamy and spiced beverage, has its roots in early medieval Britain, where it was initially a drink for the aristocracy. Over the centuries, it has evolved into a festive staple, especially during the holiday season. Making eggnog in a slow cooker allows the flavors to meld beautifully, resulting in a rich and velvety drink that's perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in. This method also ensures a gentle cooking process, which helps avoid curdling and creates a smooth texture.
Slow cooker eggnog pairs wonderfully with a variety of holiday treats. Consider serving it alongside gingerbread cookies or a slice of fruitcake to complement its creamy sweetness. For a savory contrast, a cheese platter with sharp cheddar or blue cheese can balance the richness of the eggnog. A sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon on top adds a delightful aromatic touch.

Slow Cooker Eggnog
Servings: 8
Ingredients
6 large eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
4 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup bourbon or rum (optional)
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined and slightly frothy.
2. Pour the mixture into the slow cooker and add the milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Stir to combine.
3. Set the slow cooker to low and cook for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches 160°F on a candy thermometer.
4. If using, stir in the bourbon or rum during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
5. Once cooked, turn off the slow cooker and let the eggnog cool slightly. It will thicken as it cools.
6. Strain the eggnog through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any cooked egg bits for a smoother texture.
7. Serve warm or chilled, garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon.
Variations & Tips

For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the bourbon or rum. You can also experiment with different spices, such as adding a pinch of allspice or cardamom for a unique twist. For a dairy-free option, substitute the milk and cream with almond milk and coconut cream, respectively. If you prefer a sweeter eggnog, increase the sugar to 1 cup. Adjust the spices to your taste, and feel free to garnish with whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
