There's something truly comforting about the aroma of slow-cooked pulled pork wafting through the house, especially on a crisp autumn day. This recipe combines the savory flavors of tender pork with the sweet and tangy notes of apple cider, a nod to the bountiful apple orchards scattered across the Midwest. It's a dish that's perfect for family gatherings or a cozy dinner at home, bringing everyone together around the table with its heartwarming taste.
This pulled pork pairs beautifully with classic coleslaw, which adds a refreshing crunch to each bite. You might also consider serving it with some homemade cornbread or buttery mashed potatoes to soak up the delicious juices. For a lighter option, a simple green salad with a vinaigrette dressing complements the rich flavors of the pork. And don't forget the pickles on the side for a bit of tang!

Variations & Tips
For a sweeter twist, add a chopped apple or two to the slow cooker along with the onions. If you're catering to picky eaters, you can omit the cayenne pepper for a milder flavor. For a smoky barbecue flavor, try adding a few drops of liquid smoke to the mix. If you prefer a more tangy taste, increase the apple cider vinegar by a couple of tablespoons. This recipe is also great with a splash of bourbon for a deeper, richer flavor.
