Whether you live in a one-bedroom apartment or a huge mansion, clothing storage can be a problem for anyone. No matter how many items you give away, you never seem to have enough room for the things you want to keep. You cram as much as you can into your closet and none of your dresser drawers close properly because they're stuffed past capacity. What else can you do?
Organize, my friends. The secret to storing all of your clothing without taking up too much space is organization. So no matter how many closets and drawers you may or may not have in your house, you can still store your clothes properly with just a few simple tips.
1. Roll your shirts (h/t One Crazy House)Flatten out your shirt and fold the bottom a couple inches. Fold each sleeve to the middle so they overlap and then roll the shirt from the neck down. When you've finished rolling it, unfold those bottom inches and they'll help hold the shirt in its rolled form.
2. Use shower curtain rings (h/t Make Space)Tank tops don't usually take up too much space, but they are slightly difficult to store. You can put them on hangers, but they usually end up slipping off. Plus, do you really want to waste hangers on something as small as a tank top? Instead, hook a bunch of shower curtain rings onto a hanger and hang your tank tops on those.
3. Try tiered hangers (h/t The Family Handyman)Whether you're dealing with limited closet space or you just need to store lesser-worn clothes out of the way, tiered hangers can free up a lot of room. Start by hanging a lightweight chain around your top hanger. Then, just stick another hanger into the next chain link and continue until you run out of chain or it becomes too heavy. (If you're using wire hangers, you can do this with pop can tabs instead of chain.)
4. Cut some PVC pipe (h/t Infarrantly Creative)If you have a large collection of scarves, belts, ties, socks or other smaller items of clothing, grab a few lengths of PVC pipe and cut them to fit into your drawers. You can store various small clothing items inside the pipes, which will allow you to fit more items in each drawer.
5. Put wheeled drawers under your bed Clothes that aren't appropriate for certain seasons have no reason to take up room in your closet or drawers. Instead of leaving them there to waste space, buy or build a few wheeled drawers that fit under your bed. 6. Store more in shoe organizers (h/t imgur)Depending on your living situation, you might not have room for a dresser. While this is inconvenient, it doesn't mean that your only option is to leave your socks and underwear out for the world to see. Buy a hanging shoe organizer, fill the pouches with socks, underwear and any other small items of clothing and hang it on the back of a door where it's out of sight.
