Cooktop Cove: Learn this delicious twist on egg-in-a-hole
By Kayla Dalsfoist
Egg-in-a-hole is a classic breakfast recipe, allowing you to enjoy your favorite toast and a perfectly-cooked fried egg simultaneously. In the video below, egg-in-a-hole receives a serious upgrade that's sure to spark your appetite.
Like most staples, egg-in-a-hole is the type of recipe that begs for you to exercise your creativity. The standard recipe requires a single slice of bread, but you can use whatever type you want, add melted cheese or other toppings onto the egg, or even turn it into a sandwich. In a crowd-pleasing move, the video below demonstrates how to make four servings at once.
To make these egg(s)-in-hole(s), you'll need:
a loaf of your favorite bread
4 eggs (though you can use as many eggs as you prefer, depending on how many holes you make)
To begin, cut little bowls out of your bread, careful not to cut all the way through. Hollow the holes out as neatly as possible.
Next, crack an egg into each hole, taking care not to break any of the yolks.
Once each hole has been filled, bake for 20 minutes — less if you prefer your yolks on the runnier side.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Slice between each egg so that they're easier to eat and try not to marvel and the gorgeous golden-brown bread.
Yum, look at that irresistible yolk.
Feel free to dip the egg-in-a-hole in your favorite sauce, or just enjoy them plain! For a full step-by-step tutorial, check out the video below. Don't forget to SHARE this recipe with all the breakfast lovers in your life!
