Cooktop Cove: Slow-cooked beef and broccoli
By Henry Cannon
Monique is the face and brains behind Divas Can Cook, a blog where the wife and mother shares recipes for her favorite dishes and treats. "I’m blessed to have grown up in a family full of southern, cooking-from-scratch women that happily shared their talents and recipes," she explains. Clearly, those women had an impact on Monique. She's made it her goal to continue sharing with the world.
For this slow-cooked beef and broccoli recipe from Monique, you'll need the following ingredients:
- 1-2 pounds of steak, cut into strips
 - 1/2 cup white or yellow onions, diced
- 3 cloves minced garlic
- ginger, grated (optional)
- 1 cup chicken or beef broth
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/4 - 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2-3 tbsp cornstarch
- 3-4 cups fresh broccoli
- brown or white rice
To start, place your strips of beef and a diced onion into the slow cooker. Now, get to work on the sauce. In a large mixing bowl, combine the broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Pour the mixture into the crock pot.
Cook on low for 3-4 hours. Afterwards, add a bit of cornstarch to thicken up the sauce. While the dish cooks, prepare your broccoli and rice.
Serve the beef and broccoli over a bed of white or brown rice. If you liked this recipe, be sure to check out Divas Can Cook for other great dishes.
