Cooktop Cove: Quit wrestling with that pomegranate and open it easily with this trick
By Wendy Tanielian
Despite the beautiful color, tangy flavor, and all those antioxidants, many give up on eating or serving pomegranates due to hard work and mess. With more than four million views, FullHdNature seems to provide a little magic to solving this difficult kitchen dilemma.
With a clean cut around the top and multiple scores around in strategic areas around the sides of the fruit, the video host frees those brilliant red seeds. While many choose to eat the seeds directly, others choose to place them in salads or vegetable dishes. They also add a little zing to healthy smoothies and juices.
"Until recently, however, pomegranates were something of a seasonal novelty in the West," NPR's Bonny Wolf reported. "Then medical studies suggested what the ancients believed and Middle Easterners probably take for granted: Pomegranates are really good for you. And thus, instant celebrity."
Don't despair if even your easier pomegranate preparation leaves some drops of that ruby juice staining your cutting board. Startcooking.com suggests a little lemon juice or vinegar will quickly clear that stain. A little pre-soak is all that should be needed for pomegranate juice on clothing or kitchen towels, according to Good Housekeeping. However, all stains should be attended too quickly.
Pass this along to all fans of this healthy flavorful fruit and save them time and frustration in the kitchen.
