Cooktop Cove: When it comes to dessert, nothing beats this recipe
By Kate Elliott
When it comes to simple and delicious desserts, nothing really beats the recipe below. Thin slices of apples are covered in butter, sugar and spices before bubbling away in a slow cooker and filling your house with the aromas of fall. When they've finished cooking, you can top them with whipped cream or use them as a side dish for pork instead of applesauce. Whatever you decide, this is a recipe you'll keep making.
You can use just one kind of apple if you choose. I've used three varieties in this recipe: Granny Smith, McIntosh and Gala. I find the different sweet and tart notes play well off each other and makes this dish a little more interesting. But the dish is yours, so use whatever apple variety you like best.
