In recent years, thanks in part to the rising popularity of the Food Network and its many shows, intricately designed desserts have become all the rage. Gone are the days when birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated with simple, one-layer chocolate cakes. Nowadays, decadent desserts are wildly colorful and feature topics galore.
There are a number of YouTube channels that aim to teach novice bakers how to master seemingly complex recipes. Video tutorials are easy to follow along and are perfect for visual learners. Perhaps that's why so many home chefs are having luck attracting followers on the video-sharing website.

Below, take a look at this cake that looks an awful lot like a tree stump.
This cake comes courtesy of Elizabeth Marek, creator of the Sugar Geek Show, which has been dubbed the "Netflix for cake decorators." Becoming a member of the Sugar Geek Show will gain you access to a multitude of recipes and easy-to-follow tutorials. Those tutorials are taught by experts in the industry who want to share their passion with the less experienced.
One of the standouts from their site has to be the "Lumberjack Cake," which you can see photos of above and below. The exterior of the cake is one thing, but once you get a glimpse of the inside you'll be thoroughly impressed.
A preview of Marek's tutorial is available below. In order to get your hands on the entire thing, you'd need to sign up with the Sugar Geek Show.
