Cakes are often reserved for celebrations. Whether it's a wedding, a birthday, or a graduation party, you're unlikely to attend a celebratory bash that's missing a cake. While we might assume that they're avoided at other times due to the lack of nutritional content, a look into most of our pantries will likely reveal that we've got no gripes about indulging ourselves — celebration or not.
If I had to venture a guess as to what the real reason that cakes aren't an everyday part of our life, it would have to do with their size and the effort that goes into making them. A full-size cake has many more servings than even those with the sweetest of tooths could stomach, so if we were in the habit of baking them for ourselves, we'd likely waste a lot of cake.

Let's take a look at the five mug cakes that Gemma Stafford put together in her video below. Be sure to watch it if you're looking for instructions!
Gemma's first mug cake is an adorable Funfetti cake, made in an equally-adorable teacup. As far as boxed cakes go, Funfetti mixes are some of the best, but if you've never had one made from scratch, you don't know what you're missing!
The second cake in Gemma's video is a chocolate cake topped with bananas. If you know someone who suffers from Celiac disease, this is the cake for them — it's gluten-free!
Gemma's third mug cake is an old favorite — red velvet. While it's ostensibly just chocolate cake with red food coloring, that doesn't stop us from buying in bulk when Valentine's Day rolls around. Now, you'll be able to make your own!
This one has to be the one that got me salivating the most. An apple crumble mug cake topped with ice cream and salted caramel sauce. I'd eat this faster than I could say "yes, please!"
Gemma's last cake is the most colorful of them all — which is a notable feat given how vibrant Funfetti cakes are! This rainbow mug cake is topped with the same cream cheese frosting that covered her red velvet cake.
