Clementine bars are the perfect dessert for your last-minute celebration

Clementines are a mainstay of supermarket produce sections across the world, but judging by the information available, they're actually a relatively modern addition. According to Produce Pete, while there are a number of stories that lay claim to the origin of clementines, none of them are known to be certain. One of the stories that Produce Pete mentions starts with an Algerian monk, father Clement, who reportedly found a natural mutation amongst the trees in his mandarin garden.
Produce Pete notes that "He nurtured the fruit tree and subsequently called it 'clementino'." Another story that Produce Pete references has clementines coming from Asia, citing Japanese botanist Tanaka as his source.

Where ever it is they come from, one thing is certain: clementines make a great addition to many desserts, as evidenced by these adorable clementine bars featured below.
Clementines might be "shrouded in mystery," as Produce Pete writes, but after checking out the ingredients in this concoction, there's nothing mysterious about why these clementine bars are so irresistible. With a graham cracker base, clementine zest and juice, and sugar, it's hard to go wrong. But this recipe from Diethood doesn't stop there, and with each ingredient added, it becomes obvious why this unique creation will be such a hit — and we haven't even gotten to the best part.
The whole recipe can be made without using your oven — a microwave is all you'll need. Katerina, the creator of the recipe, touts that she made the entire creation in "11 minutes and 13 seconds." We're willing to bet you can't beat her time, but there's no doubting that this is one quick recipe.
Suffice it to say, if all desserts were this easy, the dentist's office would be far busier than it currently is. Fortunately, they aren't. While you won't likely find another clementine bar recipe online (judging from a few web searches, this is a really unique recipe), there are other similar fruit bar recipes available online, like this raspberry bar recipe. Unfortunately though, similar recipes all call for an oven to bake them. If you're looking for quick & simple, these clementine bars are the way to go.
