Throw away those bulky delivery menus and instead, try out these fantastic takeout recipes for your slow cooker
1. Orange chicken
One of my favorite dishes to order at Chinese restaurants is orange chicken. It's tangy, sweet and always delicious. Unfortunately, I never knew how to make the dish, so I could enjoy it only if there was a Panda Express nearby. Luckily, we've discovered how to make this amazing dish using your slow cooker!
2. Chicken tikka masala
Tikka masala is a classic Indian dish that combines chicken, tomatoes and chili peppers — and includes tangy yogurt to cool it all down. Typically the chicken is marinated in that yogurt for hours to tenderize it and infuse it with all that flavor. But follow this recipe, and you can get all that tenderness without lots of pre-planning or having a marinating dish that takes up all that space in your fridge.
3. Chicken Teriyaki
This stand-out recipe is so incredibly delicious, it really needs no introduction! Sticky, sweet and tangy chicken is added to the slow cooker with a few simple ingredients and left to glaze perfectly as you go about your day. For dinnertime (if you can last that long while smelling the incredible aromas), simply open your slow cooker to find a dish so superb, it would be a knockout on any restaurant menu!
4. Cashew chicken
Typically, cashew chicken is made entirely in a wok and sometimes the chicken is even deep-fried before being added. But that doesn't mean the slow cooker can't step up and do it all. The way to achieve this scrumptious dish is to combine the veggies, cashews and sauce, and let the chicken just sit on top of it all as it cooks.
5. Coconut chicken
This coconut chicken recipe is a popular Indian dish, and one of the most comforting things you can come home to on a busy day. Chicken is stewed in tomatoes, coconut milk and hot or mild curry spices, making it perfect for smothering over steamed rice or, for a twist, piling into tacos!
6. Beef and broccoli
When I think Chinese takeout, beef and broccoli is one of those things that immediately pops into my head. Now you can make an amazing version of this dish right at home in your slow cooker. In this recipe, I've added a couple of unconventional veggies — snow peas and red bell peppers — which give this slow-cooked gem a wonderful crunch and yummy flavor. Your family will love it! It's sure to earn a place on your weekly dinner rotation.
7. General Tso's chicken
Although not authentically Chinese, General Tso's chicken is truly a classic Chinese-American dish. The wonderfully sweet and sour chicken dish is thought to have been named after a great military leader from the Qing Dynasty. This recipe now enables you to bring this popular dish right to your table.
8. Honey sesame chicken
Serve this sesame chicken over jasmine rice. Add steamed broccoli and snow peas, and you have yourself a complete meal! Look at that mouth-watering meat!
9. Mongolian beef
Serve this flavorful dish over steamed white rice. You can make it mild by eliminating the sambal or extra spicy taste (how I like it) by adding a few Thai bird chili peppers. Either way, you'll have a dish everyone will love!
