While we all love a good (and easy) sandwich dinner every once in a while, we often find ourselves craving something a bit less casual for our final meal of the day. With this incredible recipe for slow cooker French dip sandwiches, you can have the best of both worlds! This amazing dish renders you mouthwatering beef sandwiches, with the beef slow-cooked to perfection with French onion soup, beef broth and a bottle of your favorite beer. Delicious!
What's even better, this is one of those dishes where you can quite literally "set it and forget it" by simply pouring the liquid over the beef chuck with some simple seasoning and allowing it to simmer beautifully until it's ready to be sliced and served. We recommend serving your beef on crusty French bread with a side of the cooking sauce for dipping. Yum!
Slow cooker French dip sandwiches
Cooktop Cove
2 pounds beef chuck roast
1 bottle of your favorite beer (lager or pale ale)
1 10.5-ounce can French onion soup
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon thyme
To Serve
1 French baguette
1 jar French onion dip
1. Place the beef chuck into the bottom of a well-oiled slow cooker. Pour in the beer, French onion soup, beef broth, pepper and thyme. Cover and cook on low for 5 hours. Once cooked, remove the beef from the slow cooker and thinly slice against the grain. Return the beef to the slow cooker.
2. Spread a spoonful of French onion dip over a slice of the baguette and place the sliced beef on top. Finish the sandwich with another piece of bread, and use the sauce from the slow cooker for dipping.
Pro tip: Take these amazing sandwiches one step further by serving them with a slice of provolone cheese and toasting the bread on either side for a crunchy twist!
Note: All slow cookers are a little bit different in temperature and calibration. This recipe was tested in Cooktop Cove's Test Kitchen using this slow cooker, which is available for purchase here.
