Everyone has that junk drawer filled with rubber bands. Two forks and a rubber band keep your fingertips safe and protected from heat while removing grilled food from burning coals or hot trays.
According to Gizmodo, Alliance Rubber currently produces more than 14 million pounds of rubber bands per year. And with the decline of one of their previous largest uses - securing tight rolls of printed newspapers - it seems these neat tricks and other household uses continue driving production and consumption.
