Easy as pie. That's the perfect way to describe this slow-cooked layered apple cake. Great for a weekday treat, during the holidays or on March 14 (3.14, Pi Day), the recipe below is low in sugar and therefore low in guilt! Paired with creamy vanilla ice cream and the option of graham cracker crumbles, this simple slow-cooked treat will be a winner on your dinner table.
The recipe utilizes the natural sweetness of the apples along with apple juice and a little brown sugar. Vanilla extract and fall spices add that flavor that is so familiar with apple pie. The most time-consuming part of this recipe will probably be taking the core out of the apple. If you don't own an apple corer, you can slice around the core. The ring shape is just a suggestion. No matter how you cut them, they will still be delicious! Apple juice and butter add a bit of moisture and flavor that are the key to cooking the apple pieces into sweet tender morsels of deliciousness. Now you're ready for this easy-as-pie apple dessert.
