The recipe below is a classic rendition of burgers and fries that is well loved by all ages. What could be more timeless than the flavors of cheese, beef, tomatoes, and French fries, all wrapped up in an easy-to-make casserole?
I like to use condensed tomato soup to infuse the flavor of tomatoes into the casserole, but you can substitute cream of mushroom or cream of chicken instead. If you want to sneak some vegetables into your kid’s diets, use cream of broccoli soup: they’ll never notice!

Cheeseburger and Fries Casserole

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 10 3/4-ounce can condensed tomato soup
1 10 3/4-ounce can cheddar cheese soup
1 20-ounce package frozen french fries
Optional garnishes: shredded cheddar cheese, chopped pickles, sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, or minced yellow onions.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 3-quart casserole dish and set aside.
In a large saute pan, cook the beef on medium-high heat until it is browned through. Drain the excess grease and discard.
Add the garlic, onion, tomato soup, and cheddar cheese soup and stir to combine.
Place the beef mixture in the prepared casserole dish and top with the french fries.
Bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes, until the potatoes are golden brown and the mixture is bubbling.
Cut individual portions and serve topped with the optional garnishes, if using.
