1. Bar soap to body wash (h/t Leslie's Tips for Life)
Some people prefer body wash to bar soap, but only happen to have bar soap on hand. If this sounds like you, then grab your cheese grater and get to work. Start by grating two bars of soap and then mixing it on medium low heat with 1.5 cups of water until the soap dissolves. Let it cool a little before pouring it into bottles and then let it finish cooling completely overnight before it's ready for use in the shower.
2. Shower cleaner (h/t Joyful Homemaking)
Need a quick way to give your shower walls a good scrub? Buy a dish wand and fill it with a half-and-half solution of vinegar and dish soap. You can use it either right before you shower or right after, but if you use it before, make sure to rinse the walls and floor thoroughly to avoid slipping.
3. Remove soap scum from glass doors (h/t Ask Anna)
If you have glass shower doors, then you've seen how much soap scum they can accumulate. An easy way to clean your doors is to scrub them with an old pair of pantyhose. If that doesn't get the job done, you can finish up by wiping down the doors with a Magic Eraser.
4. Homemade shower melts (h/t Busy Bliss)
Next time you find yourself fighting a cold, forget the cold medicine and make yourself some shower melts instead. Start with a cup of baking soda and add water to make a paste. Mix in 10 drops each of eucalyptus, peppermint and lavender essential oils. (You can also add food coloring if you want a specific color of melts.) Press this mixture into a silicone mold of your choice and put it in the freezer to dry. After at least an hour, you can transfer the melts to an airtight container. Whenever you feel a cold coming on, put one of your melts by the shower drain and the hot water will help it work its magic.
5. Unclog your shower drain
If anyone using your shower has long hair, then you'll likely deal with a clogged shower drain every once in awhile. Instead of calling a plumber, drop four Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain and then pour in a cup of vinegar. After 10 minutes, pour hot water down the drain to finish flushing out the clog.
