You know how sweet potatoes get even sweeter? You add sugar to them! That's right, the recipe below may not be the most health-conscious of all Southern recipes, but it sure is one of the most delicious. Brown sugar comes together with baking spices to entirely coat pieces of sweet potatoes. And when you put it all in the oven, it all gets just a little crispy on the outside while being delicious soft and fluffy inside.
That's right, I said the oven. I know, I know, traditionally Southern candied sweet potatoes are cooked on the stovetop. But sometimes you already have a lot on top of the stove and other times, you just want to throw something in the oven so you can focus on the rest of dinner. So that's what I did here, and the dish came out just as delicious as any time I've done on the stove. This might be the only way I ever do them again!
