How to make Southern chicken and waffle sliders

To the uninitiated, it may sound like an unlikely pairing. Fried chicken and waffles? But one taste and you’ll surely grasp its appeal. Soft meets crunchy. Sweet meets spicy. Breakfast meets dinner. The result is an improbable but wholly delicious combo. The recipe below combines freshly made waffles with your favorite fried chicken and a spicy maple syrup in a way that is sure to rock your world.
You can use either just-made fried chicken tenders or even frozen fried or baked tenders. The key is to make sure they are crisp and crunchy on the outside and tender in the middle. A hit of spice in the coating is ideal.

Southern Chicken and Waffles

2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups buttermilk
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
6 pieces of boneless fried chicken, cooked and kept warm or reheated
6 slices of bacon, cooked until crisp, halved into 2 short strips
¼ cup maple syrup
1 tablespoon hot sauce
Preheat the waffle maker. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter and stir to mix well.
Cook the waffles in the waffle maker according to the manufacturers instructions.
Cut the cooked waffles into quarters. Top each waffle quarter with chicken and then broken up strips of bacon.
In a small bowl, stir together the maple syrup and hot sauce. Drizzle the spicy maple syrup drizzled over the waffle sliders and serve immediately.
