Things often are more than they appear to be on the surface, and denture tablets are no exception to the rule. While these inexpensive products are exclusively marketed as false teeth cleansers, DIY experts know better. When used strategically, denture tablets prove to be a versatile cleaning tool.
Skip the aisle at the store that holds expensive stain removers and harsh chemical products to break down mineral buildup. Instead, pick up a few packs of generic denture tablets and head home for some thorough and painless drop-and-go cleaning. The following 10 ways denture tablets dissolve grime into a sparkling shine are sure to surprise.

1. Clean fingernails
In the same way denture tablets are used to whiten and clean false teeth, they effectively produce similar results for fingernails. Drop two tablets into a small bowl of warm water and allow them to dissolve entirely until all bubbles have faded. Submerge all fingernails in the bowl and let them soak for 10 minutes. Once removed, there should be a noticeable difference in the amount of under-nail dirt buildup as well as a whitening effect on the surface.
2. Clear drains
As they dissolve, denture tablets work to break down small minerals and particles on teeth leaving them clean and disinfected. The same process can prove effective at clearing a mildly clogged drain in the home. Crush up 2-3 denture tablets and allow them to flow down the drain using a steady stream of warm water. Follow this up by pouring a cup of boiling water and a cup of distilled white vinegar down the drain to ensure successful results.
3. DIY fabric stain remover
Denture tablets are highly effective at removing yellow stains from originally white false teeth. Similarly, these tablets work well when removing yellow stains from white clothing. As a quick yellow-stain removing solution, drop two tablets into a cup of warm water and allow them to dissolve completely. Pour the solution directly onto the stain and allow it to soak in for approximately 10-15 minutes. Put the garment through a gentle cycle in the washing machine and once completed, the stain will have disappeared.
4. Clearing up water rings
In the same way denture tablets work to remove the rings left on false teeth by the buildup of saliva and bacteria, they can just as easily clean rings off glass vases left by standing water. Drop 2 denture tablets into the glass vase and fill to the top with hot water. Allow the tablets to dissolve completely and let the mixture sit for 15-minutes. Dump the solution out and rinse thoroughly with warm water for a shining clean. This strategy doesn't require any extra brushing or wiping down of the glass to reveal successful results.
5. Shine and clean teakettles
False teeth are crafted to look as authentic as possible and therefore come with several hard-to-clean corners and cracks. Denture tablets are designed to dissolve around these areas and effectively clean even the unseen portions of a false tooth. The same theory can be applied when denture tablets are used to clean teakettles. Over time, water deposits can build up within the kettle and through the spout altering the appearance of the pot and possibly changing the flavor of the brew. Fill the teakettle with water and drop in 2 denture tablets. Allow the mixture to sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing twice with warm to hot water. This strategy both cleanses and deodorizes the interior of the kettle for future use.
6. Jewelry cleaner
A nice smile has a certain sparkle to it and denture tablets work to keep false teeth white and gleaming. They're also highly effective at keeping jewelry in top-notch condition. If dirt and grime build up on diamonds, pearls and other favorite pieces of jewelry and leave them looking dirty and dull, drop them into a mixture of warm water and a single denture tablet. Allowing them to sit in the solution for 10-minutes and rinsing thoroughly will deliver significant results. Diamonds will be noticeably shinier and pearls and other jewelry types will once again reveal their colors more vibrantly.
7. Keeping coffee cups clean
Ceramic coffee cups often react to coffee stains in the same fashion as a set of false teeth. Both materials hold onto small liquid particles resulting in a light-brown stained appearance over time. Fortunately, a quick dip in a denture tablet and water solution is all it takes to return both to their original, pristine appearance. Fill a stained coffee cup nearly to the brim with warm water and drop a tablet in. Allow the tablet to dissolve and sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing the cup thoroughly with hot water and drying.
8. Toilet bowl cleanser
For a quick toilet bowl cleaning that doesn’t require any additional scrubbing to show great results, consider dropping 2 denture tablets into the water and allowing them to dissolve completely. Let the water sit for 20-30 minutes before flushing for a good-as-new clean that doesn’t demand the use of any harsh chemical wipe-downs.
9. Get rid of casserole cling
Even the big-name brands of dish cleaners can be frustratingly ineffective when it comes to casserole crust that has remained in the pan just a little too long. To avoid useless scrubbing that results in a damaged cleaning wand, place the casserole dish in the sink and fill to the top with hot water. Drop 2 denture tables into the dish and allow them to dissolve completely. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes before dumping the dirty water and rinsing the dish thoroughly with hot water. If any remnants are left, they will be very loose and easy to wipe away with a soft sponge.

10. Disinfect teething rings and pacifiers
A bleach and water mix can be an effective DIY cleanser when it comes to keeping teething rings and pacifiers in chewable shape, but denture tablets prove just as useful with less mixing and harsh chemicals involved. Those who prefer a more time-efficient approach to cleaning children’s teething accessories and toys can fill the sink 1/3 of the way with hot water and drop in 3 denture tablets. Once the tablets are dissolved, teething rings, pacifiers and small rubber toys can go directly into the sink and soak for 10-20 minutes. Make sure to rinse items thoroughly with hot water before returning them to the playroom.
