File organizers are handy for more than just making sure your taxes are in one place. If you've scored a set of desktop file organizers at a garage sale or on clearance but don't have papers that need filing, put the organizers to good use throughout your home.
From keeping pot lids separated to storing cutting boards and craft items, file organizers are useful everywhere from the kitchen to the bedroom. If you have metal organizers but don't like the color, spray paint them to match or contrast with the decor of the room in which you'll put the organizers.

Store cutting boards
Cutting boards can take up a lot of kitchen cabinet space. Use a file organizer to keep them near the countertop and out of the cabinets. This trick also helps wood cutting boards thoroughly dry after being wiped down with a wet cloth.

Organize pot lids
Like with the cutting boards, a file organizer will keep pot lids separate. This is especially important if you're letting the lids air dry, as water often collects inside the rims.

Organize hair tools
Keep your curling iron and flat iron separate. Slide the tool into one space in the organizer, and set the cord into the next space. Add hairbrushes or combs to the other slots.

Organize your closet
To make a linen closet look neat, use an organizer to hold towels and washcloths. For clothes closets, roll up and stack T-shirts in each of the slots. You also could store photo albums in file organizers.

Organize paper grocery bags
Keep paper bags within easy reach. Fold and smooth each bag, then slide them into a file organizer. Most slots will hold more than one bag, so you're sure never to run out.

Make a desktop shelf
Turn a file organizer on its side for a handy desktop shelf. Place scissors, sticky notes, earbuds and other small items on the inside. Place larger items such as a pen caddy or phone on the top.
