The tender beef, combined with the earthy flavors of the vegetables, makes this recipe a crowd-pleaser that you will want to make over and over again.
I have fond memories of my mom making this dish for us during the cold winter months. The aroma of the beef cooking in the slow cooker would fill our house, and we couldn't wait to dig in. My mom would always serve it over a bed of buttery egg noodles or fluffy mashed potatoes, and it was the ultimate comfort food meal. Now, as an adult, I love making this recipe for my family because it's not only delicious, but it also reminds me of home.

1 lb of sirloin steak, cut into strips with excess fat removed
1 small onion, thinly sliced
8 ounces of baby mushrooms, sliced

¼ cup of dry red wine
2.5 cups of beef broth
2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with ¼ cup of cold water
Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon of pure olive oil
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
¼ cup of dry red wine
2.5 cups of beef broth
2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with ¼ cup of cold water
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. Begin by arranging the sliced onions and mushrooms at the base of slow cooker.
2. Next, brown seasoned steak in skillet with olive oil. Sear each side for about 3 mins but do not have steak cook completely. The browning step really adds extra flavor.
3. Transfer the seared meat to the slow cooker, placing it on top of the vegetables.
4. Pour a couple of tablespoons of red wine into the heated skillet and scrape the bottom to remove any browned bits of meat. Add this mixture to the slow cooker.
5. Season the beef once again with pepper. Next, add Worcestershire sauce, red wine, and beef broth. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
