Cooktop Cove: How to pipe a rose bouquet cupcake decoration
By Angela Brown
If you want to take your cupcake decorating to new heights, check out this fun technique from Cakes by Lynz. You'll learn how to take your cupcakes from plain to fantastic by creating a flower bouquet on top of your cake using frosting. This technique is a great way to add just a pop of personality to your next batch of baked goodies.
Check out the video at the end of the article to see how simple this technique is.
For this project, you will need:
Cupcakes
Spatulas
Buttercream frosting (two different shades of the same color)
1 piping bag
Small closed star tip (34) or a Wilton 2D for larger cupcakes
Using the lighter shade of your frosting, create a dome in the center of your cupcake. This layer will help your flowers look taller on the cake.
Fill your piping bag with the both shades of your frosting. When filling the bag, put one shade on one side of the bag and your second shade on the other, and push it all towards the bottom of the bag. This will help create two-toned flowers.
Squeeze a bit of frosting out of the tip to get rid of air bubbles and twist the end closed. Use one hand to hold the bag closed and to apply pressure. Your other hand will help guide the tip.
To make the roses, press your tip to the top of your cupcake. Using slight pressure, push frosting onto the cupcake and swirl around, two or three times to create your mini-rose.
Leaving a slight gap (so you have room for your next rose), do the same thing around the edges of the cupcake, making sure the edges of each rose touch. You should be able to fit about five roses around the edge.
To fill the top, create three smaller roses . It's okay if they overlap a bit. To close any gaps, use your tip to gently add a tiny bit of frosting to those areas. These will look like small flowers between your roses!
If you want to take your cupcake to the next level, use edible sugar pearls between the flowers as a final touch.
These adorable cupcakes are easy to make and perfect for Mother's Day or a birthday party. If you like this technique, share it with your friends on Facebook.
