Cooktop Cove: Save money by making Applebee's baby back ribs at home
By Johnny Ornelas
Applebees is America's most popular casual dining restaurant, and it's no surprise that their baby back ribs are their most popular dish. Surprisingly, Applebee's chefs boil their ribs instead of grilling them in order to save time.  This means you can make a very similar tasting rib at home using your slow cooker, at a fraction of the cost!
Let's see how it's done.
Slow cooker baby back ribs recipe
1 rack of baby back ribs $8.34
1 (18 oz) bottle barbeque sauce $3.00
salt and ground black pepper $0.10
1/2 cup water
1 cup apple sauce $0.45
1 yellow onion $0.49
(optional) 1 clove garlic $0.15
Cost at home: $4.17 per serving
Cost at Applebee's: $21.99 per serving
Total cost saving for a family of four: $71.28
Wow! Everyone knows cooking at home saves money, but sometimes it can be hard to realize exactly how much money you're saving for each meal you cook. This is eye opening!
