Cooktop Cove: Turn 5 simple ingredients into a yummy vegetarian dinner in not even 20 minutes
By Stacey Mattish
Everybody loves pizza! If you don't want to take the time to make an entire pizza, though, Caprese Calzones are the next best things. This recipe from Tbsp. only uses 5 ingredients and it's a breeze to prepare: It can be baked and assembled in no more than 20 minutes. For a very similar recipe, watch Delish's video below.
To get started, you need pizza dough. Tbsp. helps shorten the prep. time by recommending Pillsbury pizza dough, or you can make the dough from scratch. Once the dough is ready, place it onto a lightly floured surface and cut into four equal sections. These will be rolled out to make your individual calzones.
On one-half of each calzone, spread some marinara sauce. Then, sprinkle on the mozzarella cheese, sliced grape tomatoes and fresh basil.
Delish's calzones are circular, so when you fold the dough over and pinch the sides, you get half-circles. Tbsp. makes its calzones in rectangular shapes, but the idea is still the same. Once you have pinched the seams closed, Delish recommends coating the surfaces with olive oil before placing the calzones on a baking sheet. Tbsp. simply slides the them onto a baking sheet without adding anything.
Place your baking sheet into an oven preheated to 425°F (218°C) and bake. Delish recommends baking for 25 minutes, while tbsp. recommends 9 to 11 minutes. When they're finished, you can simply enjoy the flavors, or kick it up a notch by serving the calzones with a dipping sauce. To see a pro assemble the delectable morsels, check out Delish's step-by-step video below.
