By Holly Antoine
We all know and love the delicious aroma of pumpkin pie, but what about other types of pumpkin desserts? You're in luck! I'm going to show you just how great pumpkin can be in cake form. These are tasty recipes that you can use to add a little spice to your holidays or for when you're still craving more pumpkin after the holidays are over.
Pumpkin desserts are so good that you could honestly eat them throughout the year. These recipes are so delectable it would be a shame to save them for just the holiday season.
Pumpkin spice cake
Pumpkin spice lattes, step aside. This pound cake unites all those delicious fall flavors into a buttery treat. You can serve it with or without coffee, and it's even better toasted the next day and slathered with butter.
Canned pumpkin makes this cake a snap to pull together, but if you want to make it really special, consider roasting your own winter squash. Most canned pumpkin is actually a combination of sweeter squashes: Butternut or red kuri squash work really well in this cake. Just watch this video below.
Chocolate pumpkin cake
For a special dessert that's a cinch to make, this chocolate pumpkin cake is just the thing! Spiced pumpkin cake gets dotted with chunks of delicious dark chocolate. It's a wonderful fall dessert, and best of all, you can probably make it with ingredients you already have in the cupboard.
This cake is actually better once it's cooled a bit, so consider making it in advance and waiting until you're ready to serve it to slice. Toasting it or running it under the broiler and serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream will really take the proverbial cake! See it come together in this video.
Pumpkin cheesecake
Take the best parts of pumpkin pie and cheesecake and you get this delightful dessert that will be perfectly at home on your Thanksgiving table. A combination of canned pumpkin, loads of delicious spices and creamy cheesecake will bring everyone back for seconds.
While traditional cheesecake uses graham cracker crumbs for the crust, this version jazzes things up a bit, as you will see in the video below. Gingersnaps add even more spice to the dessert -- the perfect foil for the spices in the cake itself. This cake does take a bit of time to finish, so be sure to start a day or two in advance.
Pumpkin gingerbread coffee cake
It's hard to imagine anything better than classic crumb cake, but this version gets an extra punch of flavor from a spiced pumpkin base. Even more spices go into the gingerbread crumb for a coffee cake that's perfect for fall.
This coffee cake is also easy to bake in individual portions. Just use a muffin tin in place of a cake tin, and bake for just 15 minutes. The resulting coffee cake muffins are always a big hit with kids! Watch this video.
Apple pumpkin bundt cake
This cake is rich in autumnal flavors thanks to two classics of the season. Fresh apples and pumpkin purée marry perfectly with a combination of spices for a bundt cake that's sure to please. Serve with coffee, tea or hot apple cider to warm up on a crisp fall day.
Choose Granny Smith apples if you'd like them to hold their shape in the cake; opt instead for Yellow Delicious if you'd like a milder apple flavor that melts more readily into the cake. Either way, the bundt will be delicious! Watch this video and then decide.
Slow cooker pumpkin spice cake
Some puddings have dinner party looks -- some don't. This delicious recipe isn't the most refined-looking dessert, but as we all know, it's what's on the inside that counts. It's a breeze to throw together and smells amazing while it's baking away in your slow cooker.
We're working on the basis that a tiny thing like a "shabby" appearance isn't going to put you off trying this fabulous dish, and trust us, your faith will be repaid tenfold when you taste it. Give this video a watch to see how it's done.
Pumpkin muffin in a mug
Forget pumpkin spice lattes – it's time to put a pumpkin spice muffin in that mug. The recipe that follows has all the delicious flavor of a pumpkin spice latte in low-carb muffin form.
This muffin is just as tasty with sweet potato in place of the pumpkin, so if you have some leftover roasted sweet potatoes, this is a fantastic way to use them up. See how it comes together by watching this video.
