Slow Cooker Italian Beef is a mouthwatering, flavorful dish that combines tender beef with a traditional blend of Italian seasonings. This classic recipe originated in Chicago, where it quickly became a beloved staple in Italian-American cuisine. The dish is typically prepared using a combination of roast beef, robust seasonings, and slow cooking methods, resulting in a tender, succulent meat that is perfect for sandwiches or served on its own.
There are numerous ways to enjoy Slow Cooker Italian Beef. One popular option is to serve it on crusty Italian rolls, topped with melted provolone cheese and giardiniera, a tangy Italian-style relish made with pickled vegetables. The combination of savory meat, melted cheese, and the spicy kick of giardiniera creates a harmonious flavor profile. Alternatively, you can serve the Italian beef on a bed of steamed rice or cooked pasta, allowing the rich juices to mingle with the grains for a satisfying meal. Additionally, you can use the meat as a topping for pizzas or mix it into a pasta sauce for an extra punch of flavor.
Slow Cooker Italian Beef
Ingredients:
3-4 pounds beef chuck roast
1 cup roasted red bell pepper strips from jar
1 cup pepperoncini rings
1/4 cup pepperoncini juice from the jar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
5-6 whole garlic cloves
15 ounces can of beef broth
2 packets (~0.14 ounces each) Italian dressing mix
Instructions:
1. Add the pepperoncini rings, roasted red bell pepper strips, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic cloves on top of the roast.
2. Pour in the pepperoncini juice and beef broth.
3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 9-10 hours (or 6-7 on high) or until the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
4. Once done, shred the beef using two forks, allowing it to soak up the flavorful juices. If the sauce is too oily, degrease using paper towels to soak up some of the excess grease.
5. Serve the Italian beef on crusty rolls or bread, using the cooking juices as a dip or drizzle for added flavor. Enjoy your delicious Slow Cooker Italian Beef!
Note: For a richer flavor, you can strain the cooking liquid and simmer it on the stovetop to reduce it into a thicker sauce before adding it back to the shredded beef.
Enjoy the delicious and flavorful Slow Cooker Italian Beef, a classic dish that will transport you to the vibrant streets of Chicago!
