Teriyaki Steak Bites are a delightful dish that brings together the savory flavors of steak with the sweet and tangy taste of teriyaki sauce. This delicious combination has its roots in Japanese cuisine, where 'teri' refers to the shine given by the sugar content in the sauce, and 'yaki' means grilled or broiled. Traditional teriyaki dishes use a glaze made from a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and mirin (a type of rice wine), sometimes with additional ingredients like garlic or ginger. The result is a simple yet flavorsome dish that is beloved around the world. Teriyaki Steak Bites take this concept and transform it into an easy-to-eat format perfect for snacks, appetizers, or a satisfying meal.
When serving Teriyaki Steak Bites, you have a variety of options that can complement their rich flavor. They can be served on their own as a hearty appetizer or alongside a heaping bowl of steamed white rice which soaks up the extra teriyaki sauce beautifully. For a more balanced meal, consider pairing them with a fresh green salad or some sautéed vegetables such as bell peppers and onions. If you're looking for a more substantial side, noodles stir-fried with a splash of soy sauce and a hint of sesame oil make an excellent addition. Regardless of how they're served, Teriyaki Steak Bites are sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Teriyaki Steak Bites
Ingredients:
1 lb beef sirloin or tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 green bell pepper, cut into slices
1 medium onion, sliced
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions:
Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), garlic, and ginger. Add the steak bites and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
Prepare Vegetables: While the steak is marinating, cut the green bell pepper and onion into bite-size pieces.
Cook the Steak: Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade (keep the marinade) and cook it in the skillet until it's browned and cooked to your preference. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.
Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil if needed, then add the bell pepper and onion. Cook until they are tender but still crisp.
Make the Teriyaki Sauce: While the vegetables are cooking, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl. Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet, add the cornstarch mixture, and bring to a simmer. Cook until the sauce thickens.
Combine: Return the cooked steak bites to the skillet with the vegetables and sauce. Stir to combine everything and heat through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve: Serve your Teriyaki Steak Bites hot, perhaps over rice or noodles, garnished with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.
