Nothing beats the combo of a Philly cheesesteak and a stromboli, and this Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli recipe wraps all that gooey, meaty goodness into one perfect, crispy package. It's like having your favorite sandwich, but even better, because it's encased in a delicious, bakeable dough! Perfect for game day, a casual dinner, or even just as a fulfilling snack, this recipe will bring the flavors of Philly right into your kitchen. No need for a trip to the City of Brotherly Love when you can make this at home!
This Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli is a meal in itself, but it goes beautifully with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. You can also serve it with a light arugula salad dressed in olive oil and lemon juice to add a fresh, peppery contrast to the savory stromboli. For a full meal, consider pairing it with some crispy sweet potato fries or a simple coleslaw.
Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli
Servings: 4
Ingredients
1 lb pizza dough, room temperature
1 lb thinly sliced ribeye steak
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup provolone cheese, shredded
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Cornmeal or flour, for dusting
Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water)
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Lightly dust a baking sheet with cornmeal or flour.
2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, sautéing until they are soft and lightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add the sliced steak and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and just cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat.
4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a large rectangle, about 12x16 inches.
5. Spread the cooked steak evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Top with the sautéed onions and peppers, then sprinkle with both types of cheese.
6. Starting at one long end, roll the dough up tightly to enclose the fillings. Pinch the seams and ends to seal.
7. Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with egg wash to help it brown.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
9. Let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Variations & Tips
For a fun twist, you can add other elements to your stromboli. Try mushroom slices or jalapeños for a kick. If you're feeling adventurous, swap out the ribeye for sliced chicken breast, seasoned to perfection. Vegetarians can enjoy a veggie version using a mix of sautéed mushrooms, spinach, and bell peppers instead of steak.
