Cooktop Cove: After tasting these fall of the bone ribs, you'll put away your grill for good!
By Holly Owens
If you’ve ever craved that perfect blend of sweet and savory in a rib recipe, then my Slow Cooker Root Beer BBQ Ribs are just what you need! Inspired by a childhood memory of enjoying root beer at a family BBQ, I experimented with adding it to my sauce, and the result was irresistible. These ribs are perfect for those busy weekdays or lazy weekends when you want something really tasty but don’t have the time to stand by the grill.
These succulent ribs pair beautifully with classic sides such as coleslaw, corn on the cob, or a simple baked potato. I like to add a fresh green salad to bring a touch of lightness to the meal. And of course, don't forget some extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping!
Slow Cooker Root Beer BBQ Ribs
Servings: 4
Ingredients
2 lbs pork ribs
1 cup root beer
1 cup barbecue sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
1. Season the ribs with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
2. Place the seasoned ribs in the slow cooker.
3. In a bowl, mix the root beer and barbecue sauce together and pour over the ribs.
4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the ribs are tender and fully cooked.
5. Carefully remove the ribs from the slow cooker and place them on a baking sheet.
6. Brush some extra BBQ sauce over the ribs and broil them in the oven for about 5 minutes on each side to get a nice caramelized finish.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce to the BBQ sauce mixture. For a smokier flavor, you might like to include a teaspoon of liquid smoke. If root beer isn’t your style, you can also try using cola or Dr. Pepper for a different sweet twist.
