Pineapple pecan cheese balls are a delightful and easy appetizer that add a sweet and savory twist to any gathering. The mix of cream cheese paired with pineapple and crunchy pecans is truly a crowd-pleaser, perfect for holiday parties, game nights, or just having friends over. I first made this recipe for a family reunion, and it was such a hit that I couldn't leave without writing it down for several relatives! What I love most is that it’s quick to put together, and you can make it ahead of time, which is a blessing when you're juggling a busy schedule.
This cheese ball pairs wonderfully with an assortment of crackers, sliced veggies like cucumbers and bell peppers, or even some fresh fruit slices like apples and pears. For a more robust spread, consider serving it alongside a charcuterie board with cured meats, olives, and a variety of cheeses. Trust me, your guests will be hovering around the appetizer table all evening!
Pineapple Pecan Cheese Ball
Servings: 8-10
Ingredients
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1 cup crushed pineapple, well drained
1 cup chopped pecans, divided
1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, crushed pineapple, 1/2 cup of the chopped pecans, green bell pepper, onion, and seasoned salt. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
2. Shape the cheese mixture into a ball. It helps to use plastic wrap to form the ball and make the process cleaner.
3. Once the ball is shaped, roll it in the remaining chopped pecans, making sure it's thoroughly coated.
4. Wrap the cheese ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm. This can be made up to two days ahead of when you plan to serve it.
5. When ready to serve, take the cheese ball out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to soften slightly. Serve with your choice of crackers, veggies, or fruit slices.
Variations & Tips
If you want to add a bit of heat, try mixing in some finely chopped jalapeño or red pepper flakes. For a different nutty flavor, you can replace the pecans with walnuts or almonds. Also, you could shape the cheese mixture into smaller, individual sized balls for a fun, bite-sized appetizer option. If you're watching your salt intake, opt for a low-sodium seasoned salt or omit it altogether.
