Chicken Lazone is a delightful dish that offers a creamy, flavorful experience perfect for a comforting meal. Originally hailing from Louisiana, this dish embodies the rich, bold flavors of Southern cuisine. Slow cooking allows the spices to meld beautifully with the tender chicken, creating an easy yet impressive dish for weeknights or special occasions. Whether you're familiar with Southern cooking or this is your first foray, Chicken Lazone is a must-try for any home cook.
Chicken Lazone pairs wonderfully with a variety of sides. Serve it over a bed of buttery pasta, fluffy white rice, or even creamy mashed potatoes to soak up the delicious sauce. Steamed vegetables like broccoli or green beans can provide a nice, crisp contrast. A side of garlic bread or a fresh mixed greens salad with a light vinaigrette can also complement the rich, creamy sauce perfectly.
Slow Cooker Chicken Lazone
Servings: 4
Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Directions
Combine the garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
Rub the spice mixture evenly over the chicken breasts.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Sear the chicken breasts in the skillet for about 2 minutes on each side until they are lightly browned.
Transfer the chicken breasts to the slow cooker.
In the same skillet, add the chicken broth and deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
Pour the chicken broth and pan drippings into the slow cooker.
Add the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese to the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if using, before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the spice rub. You can also substitute boneless, skinless chicken thighs for a richer flavor. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir into the slow cooker about 30 minutes before the cooking time is up. For a healthier option, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
