Cooktop Cove: In our family, we’ve dubbed these 'Cloud Kisses.' Light as air, just 4 ingredients, and they're always the first to disappear!
By McKayla Davis
Snowflake meringue cookies are delicate, airy treats that melt in your mouth, just like freshly fallen snow. Originating from the kitchens of Europe, where meringue has been a staple for centuries, these cookies are perfect for a winter afternoon spent with family. With only four ingredients, they are as fuss-free as they are charming, making them a delightful addition to your holiday baking list.
These meringue snowflakes pair wonderfully with a mug of hot cocoa or a cup of tea. For a festive gathering, arrange them on a platter alongside some fresh berries or a few pieces of dark chocolate. They also look beautiful as a topper for holiday cakes or can be used to decorate a dessert table during family get-togethers.
Snowflake Meringue Cookies
Servings: 24 cookies
Ingredients
3 large egg whites
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a clean, dry mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites until frothy.
Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
Gradually add in the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat until the mixture is thick and glossy with stiff peaks.
Gently fold in the vanilla extract.
Using a piping bag with a star tip, pipe the meringue onto the prepared baking sheets in snowflake shapes.
Bake for 1 to 1.5 hours until the cookies are dry to the touch and can be easily lifted off the parchment.
Turn off the oven, but leave the cookies inside to cool completely. This will help them set fully without cracking.
Variations & Tips
For a festive twist, consider adding a few drops of peppermint extract in place of vanilla, or gently swirling in some food coloring for a marbled effect. If your family enjoys a touch of sparkle, sprinkle some edible glitter or sanding sugar on the cookies before baking. For those who prefer a nutty flavor, adding a few finely ground almond pieces can enhance the texture and taste.
