Cooktop Cove: This 'Family Reunion Bake' has everyone asking for seconds—and the recipe!
By Holly Owens
Amish Meatball Bake is one of those comforting dishes that feels like a warm hug after a long day. Growing up in the Midwest, I've always been surrounded by hearty, home-cooked meals, and this recipe is a nod to those roots. It's perfect for busy weeknights when you want something filling and delicious but don't have hours to spend in the kitchen. The blend of savory meatballs, creamy sauce, and melted cheese is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
This Amish Meatball Bake pairs wonderfully with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables to balance out the richness of the dish. A side of crusty bread or dinner rolls is perfect for soaking up the creamy sauce. If you're feeling indulgent, a scoop of mashed potatoes or buttered noodles would make this meal even more comforting.
Amish Meatball Bake
Servings: 4-6 servings
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them in a single layer in a baking dish.
In a separate bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream until smooth.
Pour the soup mixture over the meatballs, spreading it evenly.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Variations & Tips
For a lighter version, you can use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef. If you prefer a bit of spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meatball mixture. For a more robust flavor, try using cream of chicken soup instead of mushroom. You can also add sautéed onions or mushrooms to the sauce for extra texture and flavor. If you're short on time, use pre-made frozen meatballs and adjust the baking time accordingly.
