There's something truly comforting about a hearty Bolognese sauce simmering away, especially when it's made with just a handful of ingredients. This Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Pork Bolognese is perfect for busy families who want a delicious meal without spending hours in the kitchen. Using ground pork gives a rich and savory flavor that pairs beautifully with the simplicity of the sauce. It's a dish that brings everyone to the table, filling the home with warmth and the promise of a satisfying meal.
This Pork Bolognese is wonderfully versatile. Serve it over your favorite pasta, like spaghetti or penne, for a classic pairing. A crisp green salad with a light vinaigrette and some crusty garlic bread will round out the meal perfectly. For a lighter option, try serving it over zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash. Don't forget a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top for that extra touch of flavor.
Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Pork Bolognese
Servings: 6
Ingredients
1 pound ground pork
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
Directions
1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground pork until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
3. Transfer the pork mixture to a slow cooker. Add the crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning, stirring to combine.
4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the flavors have melded together.
5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving. Serve with cooked pasta.
Variations & Tips
For a bit of spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when cooking the onion and garlic. If you have picky eaters, you can finely chop some carrots and celery and add them to the slow cooker for extra nutrition. For a creamier sauce, stir in a splash of cream or a dollop of ricotta cheese just before serving. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
