Cooktop Cove: Beware: These rolls are highly addictive!
By McKayla Davis
Honey cinnamon roll ups are a delightful treat that brings warmth and sweetness to any gathering. Using frozen phyllo dough makes this recipe quick and easy, perfect for busy parents who want to create something special without spending hours in the kitchen. The flaky layers of phyllo dough, combined with the sticky, glazed honey and cinnamon filling, make these roll ups a family favorite. This recipe is inspired by the classic flavors of baklava, but with a simpler twist that’s perfect for a cozy afternoon snack or a sweet breakfast treat.
These honey cinnamon roll ups pair beautifully with a warm cup of tea or coffee. For a more indulgent experience, serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Fresh fruit, such as berries or sliced apples, can provide a refreshing contrast to the sweetness of the roll ups. If you're serving these as part of a brunch spread, consider adding a savory element like scrambled eggs or a cheese platter to balance the flavors.
Honey Cinnamon Roll Ups
Servings: 8
Ingredients
1 package of frozen phyllo dough, thawed
1/2 cup of honey
1/4 cup of melted butter
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 cup of chopped nuts (optional)
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, mix the honey and ground cinnamon until well combined.
Carefully unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top and brush with butter again. Repeat until you have 4 layers.
Spread a thin layer of the honey and cinnamon mixture over the top layer of phyllo dough. If using nuts, sprinkle a small amount evenly over the honey mixture.
Starting from one end, gently roll the phyllo dough into a tight log. Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling.
Brush the tops of the rolls with any remaining melted butter.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and crispy.
Allow the rolls to cool slightly before slicing them into bite-sized pieces. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Variations & Tips
For a nut-free version, simply omit the nuts. You can also experiment with different fillings, such as adding a touch of vanilla extract to the honey mixture or using a mix of brown sugar and cinnamon for a different flavor profile. If you have picky eaters, consider adding a layer of cream cheese before spreading the honey mixture for a creamy twist. For a more festive touch, drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled roll ups before serving.
