Cooktop Cove: Life's a bit sweeter now—my hubby and his pals can't get enough of this dish, so I always whip up extra!
By McKayla Davis
Slow Cooker Apple Cider Brats are a delightful twist on the traditional beer brats, perfect for those cozy family dinners or when you’re hosting friends. This recipe infuses bratwurst with the crisp, slightly sweet flavor of apple cider, offering a unique fruity note while maintaining the hearty essence of the sausages. It's a comforting dish that brings a touch of autumn to your table, making it a wonderful choice for fall gatherings or any time you want to enjoy a warm, flavorful meal.
These Apple Cider Brats pair wonderfully with classic sides like creamy coleslaw or a fresh green salad to balance the richness of the sausages. For a heartier meal, consider serving them with roasted potatoes or a warm potato salad. If you’re in the mood for something a bit different, try pairing them with a sweet corn casserole or some homemade applesauce for an extra touch of sweetness.

1/4 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, sliced
4 cups apple cider
6 hot dog buns
Directions
Optionally grill or sear the bratwurst sausages for added flavor and texture.

Arrange the sausages on top of the onions.
Add the remaining brown sugar and slices of unsalted butter over the sausages.
Pour the apple cider over everything in the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the brats are tender.
Serve the apple cider brats in hot dog buns, topped with the caramelized onions from the slow cooker.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add a few slices of jalapeño peppers to the slow cooker. If you have picky eaters, consider using a milder sausage or even chicken sausages. You can also experiment with different types of cider, such as a spiced apple cider or a hard cider for an adult twist. For a gluten-free option, serve the brats without buns or use gluten-free buns.
