French Onion Beef is one of those magical recipes that brings together the rich, savory flavors of French onion soup with the heartiness of a beef roast. It's perfect for those chilly Midwestern days when you want something comforting but don't have hours to spend in the kitchen. With just five ingredients and a slow cooker, you can come home to a meal that tastes like you've been cooking all day. This dish is a lifesaver for busy professionals like me who want to enjoy a home-cooked meal without the hassle.
This French Onion Beef pairs beautifully with creamy mashed potatoes or a crusty baguette to soak up all the delicious juices. A simple green salad with a tangy vinaigrette can add a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors. For a complete meal, consider serving it alongside roasted vegetables like carrots or Brussels sprouts.
Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient French Onion Beef
Servings: 6
Ingredients
3 pounds beef chuck roast
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 packet (1 ounce) dry French onion soup mix
1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Directions
Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
Rub the French onion soup mix all over the beef roast and place it on top of the onions.
Pour the condensed beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the beef.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Once cooked, shred the beef with two forks and mix it with the juices and onions before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a bit of a kick, add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the beef before cooking. If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with two tablespoons of water and stir it into the juices about 30 minutes before serving. For a more traditional French onion flavor, you can add a splash of sherry or a few sprigs of fresh thyme to the slow cooker. If you're looking to make this dish even more budget-friendly, you can substitute the beef chuck roast with a more affordable cut like beef shoulder roast.
